SECOND CLASS Suggested Work 22nd-23rd June
Hi everyone. Most of you probably finished all your books last week, so below is a list of activities for your final two days of work. It is up to you what activities you would like to try; you don’t need to do them all. As I said last week, well done on all your hard work over the last few months. Once you tried your best, that’s all that matters. Don’t worry if there was something you didn’t understand or could not do, there will be lots of revision time when you return to school in September. Also, just a little reminder to put aside the following three books and keep them safe; Read at Home, Word Wizard and Grow in Love.
I hope you all enjoy your summer holidays. Try to get outside as much as you can, keep active and keep exploring. Also, keep reading. It is so important that you try to find a little time to read every day. Have fun boys and girls and we will see each other again very soon.

SECOND CLASS Suggested Work 15th- 19th June
Hello boys and girls. I hope you are all keeping well. You will be glad to know that after this week we will have finished all our books! Well done everyone! You did so well in these strange times, and I am so proud of you all. I have no doubt you worked very hard and did your best learning over the last few months. It was such a pity we did not get back to school before the end of the year. I am sure you are all missing your friends so much and cannot wait to see them again. Hopefully by September things will have returned to some bit of normality and you will all be back together again, learning lots and having fun.
I have one little favour to ask before you pack away all your schoolbooks for the summer. Could you please set aside the books, Read at Home and Word Wizard and put them somewhere safe over the holidays. These are school rental books and will need to be returned to school in September. Also, could you please set aside the Grow in Love workbook. There are a few pages left to be finished in it and these can be finished next year when you are preparing for your First Holy Communion.
Below is a list of work for just three days, and then you are to give yourself two days off, one for sports day and one for school trip. As you know, it is not possible to do either of these this year, however, you can do something fun on these days instead. Maybe organise a family sports day! There are so many fun races and activities you can do like running races, wheelbarrow races, egg and spoon, hula hoop, beanbag race, solo with a sliotar and hurl, penalty shoot outs, design and make an obstacle course. I have included some ideas and links to activities, races and games that you could try. You might not have all the equipment at home, but you can improvise and use something else eg. rope or chalk can be used to represent agility ladders

Sports Days Ideas
Balloon Pop Relay Race
You’ll need several inflated balloons and a chair. The object is for the children to take a balloon, run to place it on a chair, and sit on the balloon until it pops. (K-5)
Pool Noodle “Baseball”
Use cones or other markers to set up a goal. Cut pool noodles in half and have kids swing their noodle “bats” at a beach ball or other large, light ball with the object of getting the ball through the goal.
If you don’t have pool noodles, you can substitute a large plastic bottle for the “bat.” If you don’t have the yard space, use jump rope or sidewalk chalk to mark the goal line and get the ball past the line.
Tug of War
Make two teams and have them pull the opposite ends of the rope to see which team is the strongest. Teams can have a parent vs. parent or parent vs. kids tug of war, or split up a family into one- to two-person teams.
Water Balloon Toss
The key to a successful water balloon toss is making sure you have enough prefilled balloons. For the toss, partners stand about a foot apart and toss the balloon back and forth. After each successful toss, one partner takes a step back. Let the pairs continue to toss until their balloon bursts.
Homemade Obstacle Course
Set up an obstacle course using some of these fun ideas:
· Use ping pong balls or balled-up socks for a ball toss game and toss/throw balls into a basket or bucket
· Set up cup stacking, a station where you have to stack and unstack items as quickly as you can
· Have them put blocks or Legos in a basket, carry it to a certain spot, return to the start, and pour them out for the next player
· Set up a tunnel using chairs and a blanket and run underneath
· Time players to see who completes the course fastest
· Have players take turns setting up new obstacle courses

Poetry:
My Foot Fell Asleep by Kenn Nesbitt
My foot fell asleep
right inside of my shoe
from sitting around
having nothing to do.
It hadn’t drank warm milk
nor tried to count sheep;
it just wasn’t busy,
and fell right asleep.
You see, in my shoe
it gets lonely and boring,
which made my foot sleepy,
and soon it was snoring.
My foot snored so loudly
my shoe began flapping.
But it didn’t notice --
it kept right on napping!
It slept through the morning
and most of the day,
despite that my other foot
wanted to play.
It took a siesta.
It slumbered inert.
It nodded through dinner.
It dozed through dessert.
Now I’m in my bed
and I’ve been up all night.
I’m trying to sleep,
although try as I might,
my foot slept all day
(what a foolish mistake!)
now I can’t fall asleep
’cause my foot’s wide awake!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsGyaUU1e_w (Video of Wayne the Stegosaurus poem)
Meet the stegosaurus, Wayne.
He doesn’t have the biggest brain.
He’s long and heavy, wide and tall,
but has a brain that’s extra small.
He’s not the brightest dinosaur.
He thinks that one plus one is four.
He can’t remember up from down.
He thinks the sky is chocolate brown.
He wears his bow tie on his tail
and likes to eat the daily mail.
When playing hide-and-seek he tries
to hide by covering his eyes.
He thinks that black is really white.
He’s sure the sun comes out at night.
He thinks that water grows on trees
and when it’s hot he starts to freeze.
He’s happy when he’s feeling ill.
He likes to dance by standing still.
And when it’s time to go to bed,
he puts bananas on his head.
He thinks his name is Bob, not Wayne,
but that’s what happens when your brain
(although you’re big and brave and spiny)
is very, very, very tiny.

Cuttin’ Kate by Shel Silverstein
Cuttin’ Kate she took her scissors,
Cut off the kitty cat’s long white whiskers,
Cut off her momma’s beautiful hair,
Cut out the seat of her dad’s underwear,
Cut the tomatoes off the farmer’s vine,
Cut her grandpa’s fishin’ line,
Cut the string on her cousin’s kite,
Cut the cord off the coal miner’s light,
Cut the sails off the captain’s boat,
She cut a hole in her best friend’s coat,
Cut her grandma’s washin’ line,
Even cut down the “no cutting” sign,
Cut down all the gardener’s roses,
Cut off all her dollies’ noses.
ALL: “You just wait until we catch you, Cuttin’ Kate!”
And they come a-chasin’ her, mad as sin.
The kitty cat chased her coverin’ his chin.
Her best friend chased her with a needle and thread.
Her momma chased her with a baldy head.
Her daddy chased her in his raggedy drawers.
The captain chased her shaking an oar.
The sign painter chased her with his whitewash can.
Her grandpa chased her with a fish in his hand.
Her cousin chased her with his kite in tatters.
The farmer chased her throwin’ tomaters.
The gardener chased her swingin’ his hoe.
The coal miner chased her flingin’ lumps of coal.
Her grandma chased her wavin’ wet clothes.
Her dollies chased her beggin’ for a nose.
And when they finally caught her,
What do you suppose they did to her?
Well, I won’t say, but her name was . . . Cuttin’ Kate.

Poetry:
My Foot Fell Asleep by Kenn Nesbitt
My foot fell asleep
right inside of my shoe
from sitting around
having nothing to do.
It hadn’t drank warm milk
nor tried to count sheep;
it just wasn’t busy,
and fell right asleep.
You see, in my shoe
it gets lonely and boring,
which made my foot sleepy,
and soon it was snoring.
My foot snored so loudly
my shoe began flapping.
But it didn’t notice --
it kept right on napping!
It slept through the morning
and most of the day,
despite that my other foot
wanted to play.
It took a siesta.
It slumbered inert.
It nodded through dinner.
It dozed through dessert.
Now I’m in my bed
and I’ve been up all night.
I’m trying to sleep,
although try as I might,
my foot slept all day
(what a foolish mistake!)
now I can’t fall asleep
’cause my foot’s wide awake!

Poetry: Wayne the Stegosaurus by Kenn Nesbitt

- Make a list of nouns, adjectives and verbs that are used to describe Wayne.
- This poem is very negative about Wayne the Stegosaurus! Can you make a poem to describe his positive qualities?
- Draw Wayne the Stegosaurus or your favourite image from the poem

SECOND CLASS Suggested Work 5th- 8th May
Hi boys and girls! I hope you are all keeping well and doing your best every day. I know next Saturday would have your Communion Day. It is such a pity it cannot go ahead at this time but don’t worry, it will be rescheduled, and your big day will come. It might be nice to do something fun/special on Saturday and treat yourself. You can still have a nice day. Maybe have a picnic or BBQ, bake a cake or have a little party, or even have movie night with popcorn.
Below is a list of work for Tuesday to Friday. See what you can do but don’t put yourself under any pressure to get it all done. This is also a link to activities that you might like to do during the week also if you’re looking for something fun to do: https://content.twinkl.co.uk/resource/97/f0/t-e-2549972-age-7-8-weekly-learning-pack-week-1_ver_7.pdf?__token__=exp=1588511168~acl=%2Fresource%2F97%2Ff0%2Ft-e-2549972-age-7-8-weekly-learning-pack-week-1_ver_7.pdf%2A~hmac=48a76b5f7911a68ab3967e0e7164ff5e34e6ec714202ea6a1f145acda8102efc
Remember to keep practising safe social distancing and hand washing. Take some time to read a book for fun and enjoyment every day. Lastly, help your parents as much as you can around the house or out in the garden. Take care, be safe, and hopefully we will see you all soon.
