Monday page 134 Q7 completing the sum in the brackets is the first step
Tuesday Page 135 Q1 please complete this question first and check your answers with the below:
a = 2.32km, b = 3.28km, c = 2.07km, d = 1.98km, e = 2.14km, f = 1.6km
Page 135 Complete Q2 – Q4
Wednesday page 135 Q5 – 7 and challenge
Thursday page 136 Q1 – Q3 Perimeter of a shape is where we add up all of the lengths of each side of the shape for example Q1 (a) we add 4cm + 4cm + 1cm + 1cm = 10cm, (b) 2cm + 3cm + 4cm = 9cm
For Q3 the opposite sides of the GAA and soccer pitch are the same lengths therefore
Example Q1 (a) 12cm, (d) 18cm
For Q2 shape with a perimeter of 16 cm – you could draw a square with each side equal to 4cm
For Q3 each side of a square is the same length 68cm + 68cm + 68cm + 68cm = 272cm
For Q4 each side of an equilateral side of a triangle is equal so therefore 138 divided by 3 = 46cm

Chapter 27: Length 2 – The Kilometre (1000 metres is equal to 1 kilometre)
Monday page 134 Q7 completing the sum in the brackets is the first step
Tuesday Page 135 Q1 please complete this question first and check your answers with the below:
a = 2.32km, b = 3.28km, c = 2.07km, d = 1.98km, e = 2.14km, f = 1.6km
For Q3 the opposite sides of the GAA and soccer pitch are the same lengths therefore
- Perimeter of the GAA pitch is 86m + 86m +144m +144m = 460m
- Perimeter of the Soccer pitch is 70m +70m +104m +104m = 348m
- Difference between the two will be 460m – 348m = 112m
- Half a lap would be half of 348m = 174m
- 7 times the GAA pitch is 460m x 7 = 3220m divided by 1000 (1000m in 1 km) = 3.22km

Page 133 Q 1 Please try this exercise yourself first and then check your answers against the explanations for the answers I give below (the answer in bold is the answer the book is looking for)
The running track is going up in 10metre intervals so therefore at point:
“a” it will be 50m which can also be written as 50/1000m or 5/100km or 0.05km
“b” = 150m or 150/1000m you break this down further by crossing off a zero on each so you’re left with 15/100km or 0.15km
“c” = 330m or 330/1000m or 33/100km so therefore is 0.33km
“d” = 450m or 450/1000m or 45/100km or 0.45km
“e” = 560m or 560/1000m or 56/100km or 0.56km
“f” = 770m or 770/1000m or 77/100km or 0.77km
“g” = 770m or 770/1000m or 77/100km or 0.77km
“h” = 770m or 770/1000m or 77/100km or 0.77km
“i” = 930m or 930/1000m or 93/100km or 0.93km
“j” = 970m or 970/1000m or 97/100km or 0.97km
How would you get 3/10 of one kilometre? 1000m divided by 10 (the bottom of 3/10) multiply by 3 (the top of 3/10) = 300m (remembering 1000m is equal to 1km)
How would you get 23/100 of one kilometre? 1000m divided by 100 (the bottom of 23/100) multiply by 23 (the top of 23/100) = 230m
For question 3 fill in this grid 300m = 300/1000m you then break it down by crossing off the same amount of zeros on both sides fraction= 3/10km, decimal = 0.30km

Chapter 27: Length 2 – The Kilometre (1000 metres is equal to 1 kilometre)

Busy at Maths
Busy at Maths – Money Chapter 21 page 107, 108, 109 (remember there are 100 cents in 1 euro).
Question: If 6 blouses cost €8.76 you must find out how much 1 blouse would cost?
***Always find the cost of one blouse first by dividing €8.76 by 6 = €1.46***
This means 1 blouse costs €1.46 and then if you need to work out how much 2 blouses would cost - you multiply €1.46 by 2 = €2.92, for the cost of 3 blouses it would be €1.46 multiplied by 3, for the cost of 4 blouses it would be €1.46 multiplied by 4 and so on.
For page 109 (remember there are 1000 grams in 1 kilogram) for question 6 – you are looking for one fifth of the ”ordinary price” in order to work out the “reduction”, for question 6(a) €7.25 divided by 5 (the bottom of 1/5) and multiply by 1 (the top of 1/5) – the reduction would be €1.45, therefore your sale price would be €7.25 minus €1.45 = €5.80

This competition is optional for each child to enter – the deadline is this Friday and submission must be emailed with parents consent. Competition is outlined below in italics;
The tutorials and other resources can be access at www.heritageinschools.ie.
To mark the release of the first five tutorials in the series we’re running an Easter competition with a prize in each of the following five categories. Busy at Maths
Busy at Maths – Money Chapter 21 page 107, 108, 109 (remember there are 100 cents in 1 euro).
- For question 1 – 5 page 108, you have to follow these steps, noting the division followed by multiplication.
